Project Description

The winner of several design awards, The Mirabella is a 30-story, 500,000 sf, LEED Platinum retirement community, providing on-site continuing health care in a site overlooking the Willamette River in Portland’s South Waterfront District. Conventional post-tensioned concrete slabs and concrete columns support the gravity loads of the structure, while a dual frame system resists lateral loads induced by earthquakes and winds. The entire structural system is supported by driven grouted piles. A wind tunnel study was actually performed on a reduced-scale model of the building to analyze the structural dynamic effects during a wind storm, appropriate wind pressures for the design of the cladding, and even the impact of maximum wind speed on pedestrians around the building.
